Fridays for Future
“The climate crisis has already been solved. We already have all the facts and solutions. All we have to do is to wake up and change.”
Fridays for Future is a global movement inspired by Swedish activist Greta Thunberg who began a school strike to protest the lack of action politicians have taken on climate change. Following her now-famous speech to world leaders at UN Climate Talks in December 2018, students across the world have initiated their own strikes in solidarity with Greta. They are demanding governments to align with the Paris Agreement and to lower emissions to the point where we can limit global climate change to a 1.5 degree average warming target.
Ormston House will host the Limerick school strikers to make posters and banners on Wednesday 13 March from 3.30-5.30pm ahead of Friday’s global #SchoolStrike4Climate #ClimateStrike. All ages and abilities welcome. We are proud to support the voices of young people and to encourage their leadership. The weekly strikes are held outside the Limerick 2030 HQ next door to Ormston House. You can read more about the young Irish activists here and hear Greta Thunberg speak here.
