Zuhar Iruretagoiena

Zuhar Iruretagoiena is the first international artist to participate in our new R&R Programme (Research & Residency). This week we invite you to join us for the Workspace Social to hear about Zuhar’s recent projects and to share with her what she should see or know about Limerick during her stay.

Admission is free and all are welcome. Don’t forget to bring your lunch!

About Zuhar:

Zuhar is an artist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Art and Technology at the University of the Basque Country. Her work focuses on research and artistic practice, in particular in expanded performance and interdisciplinary collaborations or frictions. Her artwork involves both traditional materials and less conventional methods – from drawing, sculpture and photography to lasers, crystals and skydives.

Zuhar has exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao (Spain); Museo San Telmo, Donostia/San Sebastian (Spain); NY Space, Manchester (United Kingdom); Bildraum, Bodensee Bregenz (Austria); Pinta, London (United Kingdom); La Casa Encendida, Madrid (Spain); c-art Galerie Prantl & Boch, Bregenz (Austria); Sala Rekalde, Bilbao (Spain); Balenciaga Museum, Getaria (Spain); KM, Donostia/San Sebastian (Spain); Gabarron Foundation, New York (USA); Centre D’Art Le LAIT, Albi (France), Cultural Centers of Spain, Tegucigalpa (Honduras), San José (Costa Rica), Mexico City (Mexico), Montevideo (Uruguay), Cordoba (Argentina) and Managua (Nicaragua).

She received a MA in Digital Arts from the University Pompeu Fabra and a PhD in Fine Art from the University of the Basque Country. She has received several awards and grants including Generation 2008, Caja Madrid; Ertibil 2009; Artist Noveles Guipuzcoanos 2010; Muro Guggenheim Award; KUNSTHAUS Residency, Bregenz; Bilbao Arte Foundation Grant; Sala Rekalde Residency Award; Nekatoenea Artistes Résidence Hendaia France, and most recently LABORE, DSS2016, European Capital of Culture 2016.

About the Workspace Social:

The Workspace Social is a weekly event developed as an alternative format for artists’ talks and networking. Every Thursday, a local or visiting artist is invited to join us for lunch: to discuss a recent project, to share new research or to propose an activity. Participants are welcome to bring along their lunch and to eat with the artist.
