An AI-generated sepia image of two figures standing in a field on an overcast day. They wear dark, hooded cloaks and face away from the camera. In the background, there is a graveyard.

Bíodh Orm Anocht: Received at the Graveyard

Received at the Graveyard is a sonic installation by Seán Hannan revolving around an evolving voice AI (artificial intelligence). At its core lies a handful of field recordings made in Ireland in the 1950s that captured the final traces of a near-extinct tradition, keening (caoineadh).

Hannan will begin with an informal talk at Ormston House about Received at the Graveyard and his artistic practice. His work explores how forgotten voices and rituals can echo into the future, both through unstable technologies and systems of collaboration.

The talk will be followed by a five-minute walk to St. Michael’s Graveyard, where an outdoor broadcast of Received at the Graveyard will take place.

Meet at Ormston House on Saturday, 30 August 2025 at 12pm. Admission is free and booking is not necessary.

This event will have limited accessibility due to steps and uneven ground.
