Féile na Gréine 2025

Limerick’s experimental, free music festival Féile na Gréine returns for 2025, including two performances at Ormston House on Sunday, 17 August.

David Murphy and Ether Ensemble will perform at 2pm. Murphy takes the pedal steel guitar outside the confines of its traditional roots and to a new place in contemporary Irish music. His live show presents ancient Irish harp tunes and historic airs by O’Carolan, O’Riada, and others in the twenty-first century, accompanied by Ether Ensemble: all-star musicians from across contemporary, modern-classical, and traditional/folk worlds.

Here the pedal steel ably takes its place alongside cello, violin, piano, harp, and lush electronic textures and synths. Murphy and his band conjure a palette of sparse, dreamlike, atmospheric soundscapes and cinematic takes on culturally significant compositions and melodies from Ireland’s great harpists, composers, and song collectors.

Harry Górski-Brown will perform at 3pm. A musician and audio-visual artist based in Glasgow, Górski-Brown studied violin performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a focus on performing contemporary classical music, especially the music of his peers, while composing himself with a particular focus on electroacoustic music.

Having grown up learning to speak and sing in Gaelic and to play traditional music on bagpipes and fiddle, Górski-Brown creates music and art stemming from these forms. His approach is informed by contemporary performance techniques.

The festival runs from 15–17 August. Please see Féile na Gréine’s website and social media for the full festival lineup.
