A display case as part of 'Distance is a Measure of Closeness' includes an explanatory text, an open notebook, two captioned diagrams of sewing machines being operated, a map of Ireland, two devices wired together, and an open publication. The diagrams are labelled with the Indian and Irish flags. The map of Ireland has four symbols: a raincloud, a Christian cross, a Union Jack, and a chart with an upward trend.

Kerry Guinan in Conversation with Dr. Kieran Cashell

On 26 July 2025 at 6pm, following the final iteration of Portraits, artist Kerry Guinan will join us to mark the closing of her solo exhibition Distance is a Measure of Closeness. Guinan will be in conversation with Dr. Kieran Cashell about her research and practice.

Cashell is a lecturer in Limerick School of Art and Design and author of Photographic Realism: The Art of Richard Billingham (Bloomsbury, 2020).

This event will run for approximately ninety minutes. Admission is free and all are welcome.

About Distance is a Measure of Closeness:

Kerry Guinan’s practice is informed by the way that places are brought together by capitalist processes. Using installation, participatory art, performance, and photography, she twins subjects in different locations, revealing political connections across vast distances. This exhibition guides invisible technological and economic connections into presence, gently suggesting that distance deepens the significance of human interdependence.
