Fridays for Future
Saoirse Exton will host a #FridaysforFuture meeting on Wednesday 21 August in Ormston House. If you are interested in learning more about climate action and how to get involved, please join us from 3-4.30pm. All ages are welcome.
Saoirse will also share information about the next global strike scheduled for 20 September and how we can take part here in Limerick. Come along to talk about what’s happening on the day and how #FridaysforFuture Limerick will operate as a movement in our county.
#FridaysForFuture is a movement that began in August 2018, after Greta Thunberg sat in front of the Swedish parliament every school day for three weeks, to protest against the lack of action on the climate crisis. She posted what she was doing on Instagram and Twitter and it soon went viral. On 8 September 2018, Greta decided to continue striking every Friday until the Swedish policies provided a safe pathway well under 2-degree C, i.e. in line with the Paris agreement. The hashtags #FridaysForFuture and #ClimateStrike spread and many students and adults began to protest outside of their parliaments and local city halls all over the world.
