Haizea Barcenilla
Ormston House is delighted to announce the curator of the Spring Members’ Exhibition. Haizea Barcenilla is an international curator, critic, researcher and lecturer at the University of the Basque Country. We look forward to working with Haizea and our members on this exhibition for our Limerick City of Culture programme.
Members are invited to meet with Haizea for a Curator’s Talk at Ormston House on Saturday 26 October at 3pm.
About Haizea:
Haizea Barcenilla (Lezo, Spain, 1981) is a curator, critic, researcher and lecturer based in Bilbao. She holds an MFA in Curating from Goldsmiths College and was a resident curator at the Pavillon of the Palais de Tokyo in 2009-2010. She has curated exhibitions in France, Sweden and Spain, and is now working as a curator for the New Patrons platform (www.newpatrons.eu) in the Basque region. She writes regularly for www.a-desk.org, and collaborates with Basque radio for cultural programs. She also lectures at the University of the Basque Country.
Haizea’s research lines revolve around three main axes: the critic to the traditional construction of history; the conception of the public and the common and artistic practices that try to trigger emancipatory agency; and gender discourse as a way of acting equality. Relating to these three points of view, she has been analysing artistic practices developed during the last ten years in Europe for her PhD at the University of the Basque Country. In 2012-2013, she was part of CuratorLab in Konstfack, Stockholm, where her research project was supervised by Maria Lind.
