Laura O’Shea

 In Uncategorised
Emma Langford and Ann Blake speak to Laura O’Shea, an award-winning director, writer, and actor. Having spent a number of years working in a call centre and then a shoe shop, O’Shea’s professional trajectory in film is steadily rising as she takes power into her own hands and makes short films to establish her face and her work. She speaks with Langford and Blake about the importance of making work despite limited resources: “you don’t really need money to make people feel things.”

Her latest short film Wednesday’s Child, which she wrote and directed, was nominated for an IFTA and won the Oscar-qualifying Tiernan McBride Award for Best Short Drama at the 34th Galway Film Fleadh, making her the first female director to receive the honor in over twenty years. She was also the winner of the prestigious Discovery Award at the 2023 Dublin International Film Festival. Currently, she is a resident Acting Coach at Bow Street Academy of Screen Acting in Dublin. Laura talks about wearing a number of creative hats at once and how it is actually a good time to be a woman in the film industry. You can find out more about O’Shea here.

You can listen to the Limerick Lady podcast episode #54 here.

O’Shea wrote, directed, and produced the music video for ‘Free To Fall’, a song from Langford’s second album Sowing Acorns. The video can be seen here.
